Ajit Agkar, the BCCI Chief Selector, has spoken about Jasprit Bumrah’s workload concerns after he named India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19. Bumrah is part of the 15-member squad that was announced on Tuesday.
Bumrah, who played three of the five Tests against England recently, will make his T20I comeback for the first time since playing the T20 World Cup final against South Africa last year.
In between, the Indian speedster had multiple injury concerns, including a back injury that kept him out of the final Test against Australia in Sydney. It was since then that Bumrah’s workload was managed and his workload management became a topic of discussion.

We Want Him Available All The Time - Ajit Agarkar On Jasprit Bumrah
After naming India’s Asia Cup squad on Tuesday in Mumbai, Ajit Agarkar touched upon Bumrah’s workload management concerns, saying that he will need to play the big games for the Indian team. The Asia Cup will be a good Test of his fitness with the T20 World Cup lined up in 2026 at home.
“I don't think there is any written plan at the moment. Obviously, there has been a nice break after the England series. The team management or the physios or people concerned are always in touch. It's not just now, and even before his injury, we tried to look after him because we know how valuable he is,” said Agakar during the press meet to announce India’s squad for the continental showpiece.
The former Indian cricketer also touched upon the importance of Jasprit Bumrah’s availability in big games like the Asia Cup, World Cup or in series against Australia and England.
"Clearly, we want him available for all the big games. I know in international cricket, every game is a big game. But there are World Cups, there is Champions Trophy or big series like England or Australia. We want him available all the time.”
"Most fast bowlers are monitored and yes, because he has picked up an injury over the last 2-3 years. It's extra attention on how unique and how special he is and it won't change. It won't change whether it's this series or in the next six months," Agarkar added.
