ZIM vs BAN 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights: Shadman Islam’s Ton Puts Bangladesh Ahead, Zimbabwe Claw Back with Late Wickets

Shadman Islam’s Ton Puts Bangladesh Ahead, Zimbabwe Claw Back with Late Wickets

Day 2 of the second Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe happening at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram saw the hosts assert their dominance. However, a late fightback from Zimbabwe kept them in the game.

Bangladesh began Day 2 needing just one wicket to close out Zimbabwe’s first innings. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, who had already claimed a five-wicket haul on Day 1, needed only one delivery to dismiss Blessing Muzarabani (2 runs off 16 balls), ending Zimbabwe’s innings at 227 runs.

The hosts then produced a disciplined batting performance, led by their openers Shadman Islam (120 runs off 181 balls) and Anamul Haque (39 runs off 80 balls), who laid a solid foundation with a century opening stand. The duo took to the crease with confidence.

Facing Zimbabwe’s pace attack led by Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, the pair negotiated the new ball with caution but grew increasingly assertive. They put on an unbeaten 105-run stand by lunch, erasing nearly half of Zimbabwe’s total.

Haque was trapped lbw by a sharp inswinger from Muzarabani in the 32nd over as Zimbabwe got a much-needed wicket early in the second session.

Shadman reached his century, the second of his Test career, with a boundary in the 42nd over.

However, Zimbabwe struck twice in quick succession just before tea to claw their way back. Mominul Haque (33 runs off 64 balls) and Shadman were dismissed by Wellington Masakadza and Brian Bennett, respectively, as the visitors opened a comeback window for themselves.

Vincent Masekesa Leads Zimbabwe’s Fightback

Post-tea, Zimbabwe continued to chip in with wickets, with their leg-spinner Vincent Masekesa bagging a three-for. He sent the troika of Najmul Hossain Shanto (23 runs off 54 balls), Jaker Ali (5 runs off 13 balls), and Nayeem Hasan (3 runs off 23 balls) packing, giving Bangladesh a run for their money.

Mushfiqur Rahim (40 runs off 59 balls), who was looking comfortable, got run out, adding to Bangladesh’s woes.
