England’s 22-run win over India on Day 5 of the Lord’s Test has pushed them to second spot in the latest ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings. India, after their second loss in the series, slipped to fourth place with just one win in three matches.
Chasing 193 for victory, India were 58/4 overnight and heavily relied on KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to pull off a memorable win. But England’s pace duo of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer delivered early breakthroughs and rocked the Indian middle-order. England reduced India to 82/7 within the first hour of play.
Ravindra Jadeja and Nitish Kumar Reddy frustrated the English bowlers for a while. But just before lunch, Reddy nicked one off Chris Woakes behind the stumps. India were 112/8 but Jadeja stitched partnerships with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to take them close. But, ultimately Siraj got dismissed with India 23 runs away from the victory.

India's WTC Campaign in Early Trouble
This loss leaves India trailing 2-1 in the five-match Test series. Their WTC 2025-27 campaign has now started poorly. With just one win and two defeats, India’s PCT has dropped to 33.33.
The next World Test Championship final is scheduled in June 2027 at Lord’s, the same venue where India suffered this crushing defeat. They would want to make a comeback in the next Test scheduled at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23.
