“He Does Not Need to be There Next Year” - Adam Gilchrist Weighs in on MS Dhoni's IPL Future

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has hinted at his retirement plans, stating that he will make a decision before the end of the current season.

Chennai Super Kings secured their third victory of the season by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets at Eden Gardens.

CSK Breaks 6-Year Drought with Thrilling Win Over KKR

Once again, MS Dhoni played a crucial role, hitting an important six in the last over to help CSK clinch their win. The team found themselves in a precarious situation, losing half of their side within the powerplay, finishing at 62/5. However, the lower middle-order batters remained composed and successfully chased down the target of 180 against KKR’s strong bowling attack.

This victory marked CSK's first win when chasing a target over 180 in six years. Noor Ahmed was awarded the Player of the Match for his impressive bowling performance of 4 wickets for 32 runs.

In the post-match presentation, Dhoni reflected on his retirement plans when questioned about the enthusiastic support he and his team receive wherever they play. The Eden Gardens was a sea of yellow, with CSK fans dominating the away matches. Dhoni expressed his gratitude for the love and affection he has received throughout his career, saying,

"That’s the love and affection I have gotten throughout. Not to forget, I’m 43, and I have played for a long time."

Regarding his retirement, he mentioned that he would take time to make a decision over the next 6 to 8 months, depending on his fitness. He stated,

"The fans don’t know when it will be my last year. It is a fact that I play only two months a year. After this IPL season ends, I have to see if my body can handle this kind of pressure for the next 6 to 8 months. There’s nothing to decide as of now, but the love and affection I receive everywhere is excellent."

Additionally, MS Dhoni made history by becoming the first batter in IPL history to score a century not out (100*) and the first wicketkeeper to achieve 200 dismissals, catching Angkirsh Raghuvanshi off a delivery bowled by Noor Ahmed.
