India’s Prithvi Shaw has opened up about the personal mentorship and emotional backing he continues to receive from legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw was once hailed as India’s next big thing and also got compared to Tendulkar at the start of his career but he is currently battling to revive his career after setbacks on and off the field.
In the last year or so, he has struggled to stay in the reckoning, especially at the domestic level. He was left out of Mumbai's squads for both the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy due to fitness issues. That snub came as a shock to many, given Shaw's pedigree and past performances. He was also not picked by any of the franchises in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) auction.

Prithvi Shaw Reveals Sachin Tendulkar’s Motivating Words
In an interaction with News24, Prithvi Shaw spoke about his long-standing bond with Sachin Tendulkar and how his guidance remains crucial, especially during testing times.
He shared how Tendulkar's unwavering belief in his potential is giving him strength to find his way back.
"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly 2 month ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you," Shaw said as quoted to News24.
Tendulkar, who has seen Shaw rise through the ranks since his early teens, has not lost faith in the batter despite the hurdles.
"He still believes in me. He said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Because he has seen me grow up. Even today, he tells me 'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot," he added.
As Shaw looks to regain fitness and form, Tendulkar’s belief could very well be the fuel that reignites the prodigy's stalled engine.

Shaw remains aware of how often he finds himself in the headlines, more for controversy than cricket in recent times. In an interview with Dainik Jagran, the 25-year-old offered a light-hearted take on his public image, likening himself to a beloved television character Jethalal from popular sitcom Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah
"One thing I would like to say is that controversies catch me. I am Jethalal of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah," Shaw told Dainik Jagran.
