Delhi Capitals Owner Parth Jindal Apologises After His Team's IPL 2025 Exit

Delhi Capitals made an unwanted record in IPL 2025, becoming the first team in tournament history to be eliminated after winning their first four matches. Despite a promising start to the season—winning five of their first six games—DC failed to qualify for the playoffs, marking their fourth consecutive season without a top-four finish.

Following the team's disappointing exit, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal posted an apology on Twitter. He acknowledged the team's failure to deliver despite major changes, including a new coaching staff and revamped squad, and emphasized that he's already looking ahead to the future.

MI Ease Past Delhi to Enter IPL 2025 Playoffs

In a virtual knockout clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Delhi Capitals faced Mumbai Indians, with one playoff spot still up for grabs. DC won the toss and opted to bowl first. On a slow surface, Mumbai Indians had a sluggish start and were restricted for much of the innings. However, the game turned dramatically in the final overs, when Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir added a blistering 48 runs in the last two overs, pushing MI to 180/6 in their 20 overs.

In response, Delhi Capitals never found momentum. They lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for just 121 in 18 overs, falling short by 59 runs and crashing out of the tournament.

Reacting to the defeat, stand-in captain Faf du Plessis, leading in the absence of the ill Axar Patel, shared his disappointment over how the final overs shifted the match:

"We let it slip in the last two overs," Faf said.
"Momentum is a real thing in cricket. The way they counter-punched to get almost 50 in the last two overs undid the hard work of the first 17–18 overs. We lost that momentum."

With this victory, Mumbai Indians secured their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, joining Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the top four. These teams will now battle it out in their remaining one or two league games to determine the final top-two positions on the table.
