DC vs KKR: Match Preview
DC Struggles at Home
The Delhi Capitals had a flying start to IPL 2025, winning five matches in a row for the first time in their IPL history. This remarkable run came under the captaincy of Axar Patel, who has been in exceptional form, particularly in Guwahati and other away fixtures. However, their return home has not been ideal—they’ve lost two of the three matches played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. All the matches have been closely contested, with their sole home victory coming in a Super Over against Rajasthan Royals, who dramatically collapsed at the end. Now, Delhi’s clear objective at home is to secure a comprehensive win against the Kolkata Knight Riders and return to winning ways.
Looking at the team composition, the Capitals appear to have found a balanced combination. Opening with Abhishek Porel has provided aggressive starts in the power play. Faf du Plessis has returned from injury and, though off to a slow start against RCB, brings experience to the top order. Karun Nair has shown flashes of form this season, while Axar Patel and KL Rahul have been reliable and flexible in the middle. In the bowling department, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mitchell Starc have consistently taken wickets. The recent addition of Dushmantha Chameera has also strengthened their attack. However, the main concern remains their inability to adapt to home conditions. Expect Delhi to consider minor changes to the playing XI in their quest for a stronger performance against KKR.
Kolkata Knight Riders Looking for a Break
Kolkata Knight Riders came into the season with high expectations after a strong 2024 campaign, but their performance in IPL 2025 has been disappointing. With only three wins from nine matches (and one game washed out due to rain), they are struggling to find a rhythm. Apart from Ajinkya Rahane and young Angkrish Raghuvanshi, no batter has delivered consistently. Venkatesh Iyer’s poor form is particularly concerning—expected to lead from the front, he has instead been pushed down the order game after game, failing to find his footing. Similarly, Sunil Narine, who shone as an opener last season, has failed to replicate that success, often losing his wicket early and contributing to a lack of stable starts.
On the bowling front, one major question is the underuse of Andre Russell by captain Ajinkya Rahane. Despite having one of the strongest bowling line-ups in the league, KKR have been exposed, especially at home, and have struggled to take wickets at crucial moments. Although qualification is still mathematically possible, KKR must win all their remaining matches to stay in the playoff race. They'll be looking to kickstart their redemption run against a Delhi side struggling to make their home ground a fortress.
