Chinnaswamy Stampede: Karnataka High Court Grants Bail To RCB Marketing Manager Nikhil Sosale

In a major update concerning the stampede that followed at the Chinnaswamy stadium after RCB's IPL title celebrations, Nikhil Sosale, the Marketing Manager Of The IPL franchise, has been granted interim bail by the Karnataka state government.

The court also granted interim relief by ordering interim release of Sunil Mathew, Kiran Kumar S and Shamant N P Mavinakere of the event organising company, DNA Entertainment Networks Private Ltd.

Following Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden IPL title win, thousands of fans gathered at the Chinnaswamy stadium on June 4 to be a part of the celebrations. However, the celebrations turned into tragedy as 11 people lost their lives and more than 50 people were left injured.

Nikhil Sosale Was Arrested On June 6

Nikhil Sosale, along with Sunil Mathew (Vice President - Business Affairs) and Kiran Kumar (Senior Event Manager), were arrested by Bengaluru Police on June 6. Sosale was arrested at the airport and the four of them were kept at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

The judge who passed their release order was Justice SR Krishna Kumar, who gave the verdict on one condition, which was to surrender their passport. The high court had reserved its verdict on interim pleas by which they have sought to be released from custody on Wednesday.

“A perusal of the material on record would indicate that at the time of causing arrest of the petitioners the investigating officer has not furnished the required checklist/mandatory documents such as arrest intimation, memorandum of arrest, grounds of arrest, inspection memo in accordance with the guidelines mandated in Arnesh Kumar’s case supra and DK Basu’s case supra...” Justice Kumar observed.

BCCI Shifts India A Series Out Of Chinnaswamy

Meanwhile, the recent incident has forced the BCCI to rethink about having some laws regarding the trophy celebrations by IPL teams. Following the tragic incident, the BCCI has decided to move out the India A series out from the Chinnaswamy stadium to be played between India A and Australia A.
