ACC writes to BCCI over Asia Cup 2025

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has officially written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding finalising the schedule of the Asia Cup 2025 amid concerns of media rights and sponsorships.

There is still uncertainty over the Asia Cup 2025 despite a recent Times of India report of the likely start of the tournament. The ACC is willing to continue the event against the backdrop of an India-Pakistan political warfare.

The report in TOI said that the tournament is likely to start from September 5 with India and Pakistan set to face each other on September 7. The final is scheduled on September 21.

ACC Worried About Media Rights Sponsorship Losses

Meanwhile, there is a growing concern within the ACC over media rights partners and sponsorships. The BCCI delaying the announcement of the schedule any further would mean losses for the Asian Cricket Council. The ACC has thus written to the BCCI urging them to announce the schedule quickly to save themselves from incurring any losses.

“In addition to highlighting the challenges being faced, the media rights partner has also referred to obligations under the Agreement that begin 60 to 90 days prior to the start of the 2025 tournament. Our sponsorship rights partner, TCM, has outlined significant commercial concerns, particularly regarding the timelines required for effective monetization and activation planning.
“Additionally, with several major ICC and international events scheduled around the same period, both Sony and TCM have expressed apprehension that any further delays could lead to missed commercial opportunities - losses that may be irrecoverable due to scheduling constraints and limited lead time.
“In light of this, and considering that fixtures for other major tournaments have already been confirmed, we are keen to address the concerns of our rights holders by finalising the Asia Cup schedule within this week. This matter holds particular importance for the ACC, as the Men’s Asia Cup serves as its primary source of revenue.
“We believe any further delays could potentially expose us to claims of breach of agreement from our partners, who may seek compensation or request discounts as a result" read the ACC letter that India Today has access to.

India Part Of Asia Cup 2025

Meanwhile, India will be playing the tournament as recent reports have confirmed. Previously, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia had also denied reports of BCCI's withdrawal from the tournament.

“The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level,"… till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding ensuing ACC events, leave alone writing anything to the ACC. At this stage, our prime focus is on the ongoing IPL and subsequent England series, both men and women" Saikia had said in a statement.
